Short night behind me,
work day before me…
one foot on the floor,
one caught in the sheet.
One bleary eye open,
one still asleep…
pick out my clothes,
plug in my curlers,
and pack a lunch to go.

Must hasten,
must hurry,
no time to waste,
move at fast pace,
make myself up in a flurry.

With seconds to spare,
a twisted top,
and mismatched shoes,
I finish my hair.

Whisk to work
in the whirling wind
which blows my hair
every which way,
except the strand
still in a curler.
Must go to the bathroom,
touch myself up
before I do anything further.

Remove the curler
and dental floss stuck in my teeth,
notice I have just one pink cheek…
wipe off the blush,
take care of some business,
end with a flush.

Ready to work,
with zipper unzipped
and toilet paper tail.
Ring-a-ding ding,
bells ting on the door,
a client comes in,
he can’t help but grin.
Head back to the bathroom again.

With bright red cheeks,
zipper zipped,
no longer a tail to display,
yet appears no blush
is needed today.

Did not hear the bell,
I scratch myself,
release a belch.
Look up, see a client
with a great big grin.
Must collect myself…
head back to the bathroom again.

Ready to work,
Ring-a-ding ding,
bells ting on the door,
a client comes in.
I look just fine,
leave red moments behind
until I feel
what’s about to expel.
Will hurry him through
what he needs to do
and all will be okay.
Can’t take one more thing
going wrong today.
He keeps asking questions,
the pressure builds up,
try keeping it in,
but it’s not enough.
The sound, the smell
of scent expelled…
red moments
like I’ve never felt.

With aerosol spray
boss shoos me away,
so glad he’s sending me home
early today.

Beep, beep, beep…
oh, what a relief,
my embarrassing day was a dream.

Just be glad it was all a dream! I can't imagine anything more embarrassing...well, I can, but it would be even worse!

Very cute. Not an expert in poetry so can't comment on presentation. Not a big fan of dream stories, but you pulled it off well. I enjoyed the read. God bless.

My, oh, my! What a DAY and what a dream!! :) Very cute poem that enabled me to picture every embarrassing detail from start to finish!
Phyllis Inniss 07/29/07
Your poem takes up the pace of your hurried movements and the humour that goes with it. Thank God it was only a dream, otherwise how would you have lived it down?
Kristen Hester 07/31/07
Oh this is a winner! I loved every line and the title too. Bravo!!!! I don't know what else to say except you nailed the topic.

Oh, Laurie! You got it right on the money! THIS is an embarrassing day for sure!..and cute ending of relief in that it never really happened. You so skillfully handled 'unmentionable' experiences with just the right words. Love how you write!!
Beth Muehlhausen08/03/07
Ahem, I'd just like to say.....oh gee, forget the formalities! This is a RIOT! Very cute, and I agree - you pulled of the "unmentionables" perfectly. :-)
