Our world is filled with misconceptions and misunderstandings. We are consumed with being happy. Is it possible that we don't really have a grasp of this term? Are you happy when life meets your expectations? Are you happy when everyone in your life is behaving in a way that pacifies you? Are you obsessed with being happy? I dare you to take a moment to ponder this question. Is being happy really that important?
I have learned that happiness depends on happenings. Happenings are those events, occurrences, incidents, and so on that come to pass with or without your participation. These are all things that are outside of you. An event may or may not be planned. An occurrence simply occurs. An incident may yield a negative or positive result. I don't' know about you but life is too short for my peace, my solace and my state of mind to depend on such temporary or unpredictable situations. I need something more. I need assurance that whatever is bringing a smile to my face cannot be altered by changes in my surroundings. I need joy.
Joy is that inner resolve that is championed and sustained by a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Going through the storms and challenges of life I find a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that joy in my life is constant. Whether I am having a mountain top experience or a devastating walk through the valley I know that I can have joy. My walk with Christ is not based on how I feel, it is based on fact. The fact is that my Lord changes not. I know that He has plans for me and I know that whatever I face He has gone before me.
I challenge you to enjoy being happy on your way to living with joy!
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost
(Romans 14:17 - The Holy Bible, King James Version)
