TITLE: The Proof
By Dan Clapp

I can hear the Song of Heaven
Coming from the angel choir
A child is born in Bethlehem
We must go now to inquire
A deliverer in a manger
We must hurry there to see
The Messiah God has promised
Who has come to set us free

I lead the way before my brothers
We go to the stable with all haste
We find the parents Mary and Joseph
And the child with which they've been graced
All who'll listen hear our story
Of the angels who foretold
Now we glorify and praise our God
The first on earth Christ's arrival to extol

We go back to the sheep that night
We will never be the same
The Messiah in the manger
The dream's picture now has a frame
Our heart's sing glory to God in the highest
And on earth peace, good will to men
The night is so much different now
A peaceful feeling and a joy within

The sun will soon be rising in the east
And I know that it sounds strange
But I don't somehow want the night to end
When it does there will have to be a change
What does the appearance of the angels
And the Messiah's coming really mean
Since he is just now a baby
And I a lad of seventeen

So many years have come and gone
Fifty years is now my age
I am in Jerusalem for the feasts
Some of the people are on rampage
They've arrested Jesus God's own son
Who I've followed for three years
They cry out for crucifixion
I fight confusion through my tears

I think back to the night of the angels
And the stable and the Christ
And the confusion that I felt then
So much is similar of these nights
But now I know that the deliverance
Is so much different from the Messiah dream
For I now have Jesus in my heart
And my heart has been washed clean

I have peace beyond understanding
And good will toward all men
I can't believe that God has delivered
My life through confession of all sin
I am like the sheep that had gone astray
And turned to its own way
And now the Lord has laid on Messiah
A shepherd's iniquity this very day

For God so loved the world
That He gave His only Son
That whosoever believeth on Him
Eternity has begun
There are those of my brothers
Who have yet to know this truth
It's up to me to go and tell them
And my life to them will be the proof

This reminded me of a Christmas recitation that an older child might recite at a Christmas program. Good job!

From the cradle to the crucifixion we have been carried along in your poem. Now you are ready to witness for Christ. A very interesting poem.

wonderful, detailed, touching, ... like a fine piece of crystal. Very enjoyable.

Hi Dan. I just wanted to take a moment to encourage you by letting you know that your entry made it into the semi-finals for the Christmas Challenge and I can honestly say that all the semi-finalist ratings were very, very close. Although you didn't actually receive an award, you still did very well. With love, Deb (Challenge Coordinator)
