I wish that I were Superman
That would be really cool
I wouldn’t have to be afraid
Of bullies at my school

I’d have his x-ray vision
I’d see through Teacher’s book
I’d know the answers to my work
And every test I took

In Gym I’d be the fastest
I’d win each sprint or race
I’d like to see the look on
That old Gym teacher’s face!

I’d have an awesome costume
I’d walk the halls with pride
When all the kids admired me
I’d feel so great inside

I’d love to fly to distant lands
I’d go to Timbuktu
I’d go and visit Santa Claus
And pet his reindeer, too

I’d fly south to Bermuda
Where waves are ten feet tall
I’d rollerblade in China
On top of the Great Wall

I know that this is just a dream
‘Cause I’m not Superman
I’m just a plain old average kid
Who does the best I can

I can’t stand up to bullies
I don’t have x-ray eyes
I can’t fly, or go real fast
But here’s a big surprise:

I know Somebody loves me
He’s stronger than a hero
His love has saved me from my sin
I’m more than just a zero

His love is stronger than my fear
He’s with me every day
He gives me everything I need
And listens when I pray

So I might wish for super strength
And all those Super things
But I have something better
I’ve found the King of Kings!

He’s with me when the bullies
Say things that make me cry
He’s with me when I take a test
He helps each time I try

He makes my legs strong when I run
He gives me joy each day
He helps me read of distant lands
Where some day, I might play

So I might dream of Superman
And I might wish I flew
But I’m just glad that I can be
A child of God. Are you?

What a lovely message. I'm sure every child has dreamed about being a superhero at some stage! Young children particularly love rhymes, and this was well suited to their level.

Great poem. Kids will enjoy reading this.

This is a wonderful little poem. I can see how children would identify with the desire to be like Superman, as well as how they feel about bullies. What a great message!
