I remember my son,
When such a young boy.
The waters just called him;
It’s a new splashing toy.

He quickly moves out in waters too deep.
Though I yell, “Stop, come back!”
He just keeps right on going –
I jump in with a splash.

Now back in my arms
All safe and all dry,
But the waters still call him –
Heading in he’s not shy.

So we purchased swim lessons.
He’s learned how to dive.

Now that that fear is over,
He’s learning to drive.

Chapter two in his life
In a car on the highway,
He thinks fast is good –
Faster’s better they say.
“Slow down,” says his mother,
She sits cringing beside him.

“I want to live longer.”
Her head starts to spin.

So a sister of mine
In a car all brand new,
She taught him to drive –
This story is true.

Now he heads off to college,
To make his own bed.
We can’t help with finals,
He’s in over his head?

Creative poetry. Children will certainly find this offers a valuable lesson.

You've hit all the mother/son highlights with this. I had one too that is now on his own. Thanks for this.

A cute story and fair warning for new parents: time flies and the little ones quickly grow up and out of the nest!
