Mommy?

Why?

You’ve left me
again --
starving,
rotting in a closet
with no toilet.

Mommy, why?

Why don’t you love me?

Mommy, why?

Where are your arms around me?
Why don’t I hear you saying,
“I’m so sorry.
I should cherish you.
I should not have…
I wish…
I could have…
I would have……”

I'm scared.

Mommy, why?

Look at me Mom! I’m the daughter you should want.

Look…

Look…

Mommy, why?

I must be unlovable.

It's so dark in here.
No one cares.
I don't matter.

Mommy, why?

I
need,
to hear you say,

“I love you,”

You ask me why you should love someone
like
me.

Mommy, why?

Why can’t I hear you say,

“I love you.
You’re so beautiful.
You’re so precious to me.

Why can’t I hear you say,

“I love you

just

because?”

Oh!
Jesus is here!
His arms are wide open.
His eyes are full of deep love
and I know he wants me to throw my head
on his chest
and so I do.

It’s safe here
in his arms.
Jesus smells of flowers and butterflies and blue sky.

I feel his tears fall on me.

He holds me tight
and strokes my hair.

He kisses my head.

Here,
in his arms
I know
I
am
loved, by my Jesus,

content, in my Jesus,

precious, to my Jesus,

wanted, by my Jesus,

and loveable, to my Jesus.

Just

because.

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. Ps 27:10

Written with such feeling and emotion....... Very moving! OH MY!!!! Loved the closure that you gave at the ending with JESUS' love... Made me want to burst out singing JESUS LOVES ME....

Great! I wanted mommy to come and save the child but the child, of course, had a much better Savior!

Much emotion showed here ... presented in a raw and dramatic way. Good job!
Yulanda Ridge05/26/07
Very thought-provoking... Makes me sad that things like that really happen in this world. "Suffer the little children to come unto Me..."
Well written, and it gives the HOPE that is in His arms, where His angels see and report everything that happens to the least of these... Well done.
Jacquelyn Horne05/27/07
Very deep. Good poetry.

This is very, very good. You've really touched on true human emotion. Good work.

Beautifully bittersweet poem. It is so sad that there are parents who don't love their children, but thankfully there is always one who is holding out his love.
Great job, keep up the good work!
