Spring comes softly
One tiny bud at a time
Bursting lifeless branches
Into fragrant bloom
From the dead mass
Of last year's vegetation
Green blades poke their heads
Until the whole yard is colored green
Dandelions scattered
Across the lawn like gold coins
Waiting to be plucked up
By loving little hands
Spring comes softly
Only the robin with cocked head
Can hear the earthworm and
Retrieve it for breakfast.
Purple crocuses awake
From their long winter nap
Splashing color here and there
And spring comes softly
In new meadow growth
Wobbly legged colts
Follow their mothers
Staying close to their dinner
In the old red barn
In the sweet smelling hay
A mother cat licks her
New born kittens
And spring comes softly as
Apple blossom's fragrances
Fill the orchard air
Delighting the honey bees
Overhead a flock of geese
Call out from their V
Formation as they head north
Celebrating spring
Spring comes softly
Gardeners plant tiny seeds
Into the earth and wait
The birth of a new harvest
Everywhere we witness
The resurrection story
New life from the dead
New hope - new beginnings
And spring comes softly.
