Thanksgiving – Bridging the Gap!

Have you ever wondered why it is so difficult to give thanks? I have struggled with the answer to this question many times; as I have encountered so many people that never seem to be thankful. I have come to the conclusion that we can only give thanks, as we realize the sacrifice that others have made in order for us to be where we are at present, and it is only through a grateful heart and a contented spirit that we can fully understand the true meaning of thanksgiving, as they are so interchangeable. Let me illustrate this by the following interchange between a father and son.

Father at home and phone rings, it was his son on the other end. He said “Hey Dad, how is it going?”
The father said, “Great Son, now that I hear your voice. I miss you so much.” The father was warm and friendly, but at the back of his mind he was wondering about the phone call. You see the son had moved away from home and the contact between them was very infrequent, and it always seem to him that his son only called him when he had a need. But the father didn’t mind that as he loved him very much.
The son, “Yes Dad, I know how much you care, as I was just sitting here in my home, and as I looked around I couldn’t help thinking about you. You see I never fully understand all the sacrifice that you made to provide for us, to make our home comfortable and nice. But now that I have my own place and have to do so many things on my own, I just want to say I am so thankful for you in my life. I really love you Dad.”
Father, after a pause and sniffles, “I love you too Son, I am so grateful that you are my Son. I thank God every day for you!”
“I will try to call you more often Dad. So long till next time.”

You have given us MUCH to think about in your story. Thank you!

You've shown us here that sometimes the son or daughter needs to be away from the parents with their own responsibilities to appreciate the sacrifices that were made on his/her behalf.

Yeah, those moments when our kids turn to us with words of thanks are so cool.

I would surely be thankful for such a call! Thank you for sharing!
