THE INCONSISTENCIES OF GOD

I’ve discovered, in my travels with the Creator, that consistent is not a word I would use to describe His behaviour. And while that may sound like a negative observation, it’s anything but.

I’ve discovered that God doesn’t work to formula. This much faith doesn’t necessarily produce this type of result. And just because He did it this way once, doesn’t mean He’s going to do the same thing again next time.

Just look at the missionary journeys of Paul. While God delivered Paul from prison, and snakes and death threats, He didn’t always do it in the same way, or on Paul’s timeline. And Paul’s final time in prison, well, I’m wondering if he still thought that maybe God would rescue him once more.

And therein lies the challenge. I like my relationships to have a comfortableness, if that’s a word, about them, a kind of environment that fosters trust through being dependable and a little bit predictable. But not so with God. Dependable yes, but predictable, not so much.

Don’t get me wrong. There are things that are consistent about Him, wrapped up in Who He Is. But His interaction with us can keep us on our toes. While this can be unsettling, it can also be very faith producing.

He calls me to be consistent in my search for His truth, through prayer, and reading His Word. How He responds to me, is totally up to Him.

Where He IS consistent is in His promise to provide peace, and a way of escape. How He does it is completely up to Him. BUT HE WILL DO IT.

So while His MO may be unpredictable, the fact still remains that He will take care of us in whatever way He sees is best.

It’s up to us to be the consistent ones!
