When I was a child someone gave me a little book by Charles Schultz "Christmas is..." which had a cute picture with the "Peanuts" characters making cute statements about what Christmas is...

I don't draw and I'm not as witty and, wise as the cartoonist was, but allow me to share my thoughts on friendship in the style of the sage of the funny pages.

Friendship is ... A loving pet that greets you at the door.

Friendship is ... Feeling free to be yourself.

Friendship is ... A good book.

Friendship is ... Hot chocolate on a snowy day.

Friendship is ... Getting up at the crack of dawn to make breakfast when you don't have to be anywhere for hours.

Friendship is ... Carrying bags for someone who needs help.

Friendship is ... A personal journal and a good pen.

Friendship is ... A surprise call or letter from a friend.

Friendship is ... Someone who follows through on a promise.

Friendship is ... Someone who keeps a secret.

Friendship is ... Listening and really hearing.

Friendship is ... The Lord's gift of communion.

Friendship is ... A schoolteacher who loves the children and really cares what they learn.

Friendship is ... A hairdresser who lets you have the style and color you want not what they want.

Friendship is ... The family around the dinner table.

Friendship is ... Conversations over coffee and doughnuts in public places.

Friendship is ... Putting out birdseed in the rain, because the birds, and squirrels have eaten all of their food and need something to eat.

Friendship is ... Helping someone fix their car when it's broken down, or fixing a flat, or bringing a can of gas when the tank runs dry.

Friendship is ... the insurance agent who comes to inspect your new apartment and stays long enough to help put the bookcase together; or the fellow who digs the hole to put up your mailbox. It is the friends who help move the big items like the dresser, and the file cabinet.

Friendship is your husband empting the dishwasher.

Friendship is watching the children while the parents go shopping, or for a night on the town.

Friendship is giving someone fresh baked bread still warm from the oven.

Friendship is ... Someone who knows everything about and loves you anyway.

Friendship is ... Hanging on the cross when ten thousand angels could have helped Him down.

Consider who you friends are. They may be the people you have always thought of as friends, or be the Samaritan who helps you out in your moment of darkness. Friendship can be what you least expect. Your family, your co-workers, total strangers, even things like a journal where you record your thoughts. Who or what are your friends?

This had much food for thought. I enjoyed reading it and thinking of the many different aspects of friendship.

I love this sentence - "Friendship can be what you least expect."

Interesting article. Some of the items I see more as Happiness is... or Random acts of kindness is ... but friendship does require contact with another. So as much as I love a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day it does not describe friendship unless it was a friend who made me the hot chocolate. Enjoyed reading this. It was written with a friendly hand.

My review for this article accidentally got shifted to the following article. I had said I agreed with what Delores felt about some of your items being about what happiness is, but that the other items were good examples of what friendship is.

Well, I don't see that there's a clear distinction between friendship and happiness.... the usually go hand in hand. So, I liked all of the examples of friendship. Thinks! This would make a perfect wall hanging.
