Send me to the sick and poor
Let me rap upon the door
Of those in need
Of my good deed

Give me strength to help and soothe
Put me in that healing groove
Where all I see
Will be set free

That pain and strife of this hard life
Will ease a little…
Put me, Lord,
Right in the middle

Hurricanes and storms that kill
I would never get my fill of
Being in the very midst
Of those who may need my assist

Local issues, one by one,
Let others do so I may run
The helping race -- I think I should
To strangers in strange neighborhoods

I dream of being sister/mother
And if I could, of father/brother
To an earth in deep distress
Let me offer more…not less

Oh Dear God, let’s make a deal
Give me purpose, make me real
Launch me out to sow, not fade
I need a chance to make a trade

For my talent, time and skill
And all the gifts of my good will
To bless the ones in desperate strait
I volunteer...DON’T MAKE ME WAIT.

With spirit willing but flesh so weak
I beg, I plead, in tears I seek
An ache to comfort and to cheer
To fly to cases not so near

I long to enter center stage
To write upon a fresh new page
In a foreign far off place
Where none have ever seen my face

Why won’t you pick this hand I wave?
This heart can help, or even save
You know I yearn to give and share
And just how much I truly care

I fast and finally just obey
You’ve made it plain; I’ll walk Your way
My now adjusted willful ears
Improve my VISION -- plain and clear

Though I falter and I tire
I finally sense what You require
Here’s what I think I hear You say,
“They also serve who stay and pray.”

In blind faith I see, I know
With life that’s left before I go
My dear, sweet Lord, I’ll really try.
Here am I…Oh, HERE AM I!

This starts out wonderful, and just gets better and better. I found the last 5 or 6 stanzas particularly moving, and the last line was the real kicker. Beautiful!

Such strong images and vivid descriptions. This moved me in so many ways.

A superb message! So often we fail to understand that serving can be done through praying as well as doing. And so often our failure to understand causes us to miss His call.

I love this stanza in particular:
I fast and finally just obey
You’ve made it plain; I’ll walk Your way
My now adjusted willful ears
Improve my VISION -- plain and clear

Good job! Blessings, Cheri
