She puts on her uniform and looks in the mirror. Ready and on time. “One last thing to do before I leave the house.” She reverently kneels beside her bed.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Not in my own strength. Help me realize I’m not alone. As I tend to the needs of others, increase my wisdom and bring to my mind the training I have received. Remind me that You are ever present in times of trouble. (Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.)
Use my hands as vessels of peace and blessing. May I have a confident, yet gentle touch as I care for the sick and needy. (Luke 5:31 Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.)
Release your healing in and through me. Today I will come across situations beyond my capabilities and control but never beyond yours. Keep me calm in the midst of chaos. Ultimately, the person I minister to is in your hands and you can calm any storm. (Mark 4:39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.)
Show me what is not clearly seen. Help me grow in compassion and see patients as you do. Every person I tend to today is your child and equal in your sight. Help me be sensitive not only to physical needs, but also emotional needs and concerns of others. (Matthew 25:45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.')
Encourage me as I encourage others. Bring to mind words of wisdom, blessing, and reassurance so that I may display your love in a hurting world. (Proverbs 25:11 A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.)
I love you Father. All for you. I give you this day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
She gets up, grabs her purse, her keys and her Bible. Her armour is in place. The day has begun.
