The doctor said
It was CMV
That touched this child
Inside his head.

He would grow
But he couldn’t know
The things we oft
Take for granted.

A year goes by,
A new doctor sighs
“It would be best
If this one dies…”

And the mother cries.

It’s not with tears
That wet her cheeks
It’s with the courage
In what she speaks.

“We choose life for this little one
He is our child! He is my son!”

Give him this, so he can grow
Even if he cannot know
The things we oft
Take for granted.

And the son, he lives.

Nine years have gone
What a whirl they’ve been
The doctor?
He is new again.

It is cruel, what he has to say
But I will share it anyway.

“Your son, he has no part at all
Of the brain that makes us human being.”
This doctor saw with the eyes of man
But his heart it had no part at all
In any of his “seeing”.

He will grow
But he will not know
The things we oft
Take for granted.

And this child gives.

He is ten now and still the greatest thing he’ll ever do is melt his mother’s heart. This gift from him I’ll never take for granted.

You know I thought
This tale was done
But I’m to tell
Of another one.

My brother was the one in pain
I think this doctor kept him sane.

Death might come
With no cure in sight
Would he win?
Could he fight?

Initials can be hard it seems
HIV
An end to dreams.

This doctor didn’t care “where from”
Instead he sought to give him some
Of Jesus.

He prayed a prayer
Right then and there
Was it okay?
He didn’t care.

Death might come
With no cure in sight
Could he win?
Would he fight?

As the end drew near
The doctor came
Still with comfort
Not with blame.

You see my brother, he had a name.

This doctor whom I’ve never met
A Christian man, with standard set
On Jesus.

This is true. Jonathan knows much more than he will ever be “medically” given credit for. The things he gives? They’re all from God! My brother died Aug 15, 1993 of complications from full-blown Aids. His doctor made house calls just to share the Gospel with him.

This poured from your loving heart. It is a blessing to this reader. My own heart aches for you. I'll keep you in my prayers.
