I walk through the garden
of flowering plants in my backyard
overflowing with bliss, delight, and peace
and think of the Garden of Eden.
I stand under a bent and gnarled olive tree
in the shopping center outside Starbucks
and think of the Garden of Gethsemane.
I fly down multilane highways at seventy miles an hour
passing in a blur a garden of flowers and bushes
planted by the highway department.
I walk in the dry sandy desert
through a garden of towering Saguaro’s
planted and nurtured by God.
I stand in a brace of marsh grass
in the shade of a great lighthouse
watching the ocean slowly
lick the lip of the Earth.
I sit on a log in a green pine forest
on top of a mountain watching a
butterfly and a hummingbird
make love to a brilliant flowering vine.
I lay on my back in a garden
of gorgeous green grass
smelling the fragrant earth and
watching God’s pallet of constantly changing
alabaster clouds painted against
a bottomless blue sky.
God’s Earth is a magnificent garden
shared and surrounding man
and I feel that, perhaps,
we’re still in the Garden of Eden.
