My Life Has Been a Melody

My life has been a melody
With first notes heard at Mama’s knee
And little children’s songs at church
And songs my Daddy sang to me.

I’ve been both singer and the song
Of theme begun in early days:
To know the depth of Jesus’ love
And honor God in all my ways.

My childhood was an onward march
To be a Christian soldier.
My teen years were a rousing chorus,
More vigorous and bolder.

My love songs led to marriage
And then came lullabies.
Life brought to me some happy tunes
And some to sing with tear filled eyes.

At Christmas time with carols,
Easter’s hymns of resurrection,
I’ve offered up the highest praise
To Him who is perfection.

My final verse is sweet refrain
To rejoice in memory
Of blessings on my family
And every gift He’s given me.

From “alleluias” to “amens,”
Lived in God’s amazing grace,
I’ll continue in my melody
Till I see my Savior’s face.
