We don’t have to try … and yet we do.
We don’t have to labour … and yet we do.
We don’t have to produce … and yet we do.
*****
We’ve been given a future.
We’ve been graced with life.
We’ve been gifted by the Creator.
Not for us the heavy splintered wood Christ carried to Golgotha.
Not for us the piercing crushing pain.
Not for us the jeering barbs of those we choose to love.
The cross He gives is light.
The value He places on us is unfathomable.
The Spirit He indivisibly melds with our own is that of God Himself.
*****
So now what?
Simply lie back, basking in His love?
Smile sweetly, exuding warmth to those who happen to draw near?
Raise our hands, expecting to be embraced by our perfect Father?
*****
It’s not enough.
The cross must impact every dark and dusty corner of our lives.
The cross must propel us into action.
But we must initiate the movement.
We must tighten and flex the muscles.
We must move the Body.
We must reach out.
We are the church, redeemed, released, called.
*****
Calamity … tragedy … delusion…
Love … life … laughter…
Work … play … rest…
PEOPLE
SOULS
ETERNITY
*****
We, the church, have the cross.
We, the church, have the commission.
We, the church, have the empowerment.
*****
We don’t have to try … and yet we do.
We don’t have to labour .. and yet we do.
We don’t have to produce … and yet we do.
*****
Why?
Because of the cross.
