Look at me, Lord,
what do You see?
What possible worth
am I to Thee?
What do You see
in this piece of sod,
that's so far removed
from the image of God?
Give me a "once-over",
I'm not worth a dime;
for behind this facade
I'm nothing but grime.
I drink and I gamble
and sometimes I curse;
and when I was a teen
I was much, much worse.
Lord, You know my record
as a man and a friend;
which leads to a Mystery
I can't comprehend.
Why would You come here,
to our planet Earth;
and live with our earthlings
who've been sinning since birth?
You mingled among them
healing the sick and the blind,
while teaching them parables
of how to be kind.
Then one day came Judas,
the Cross and the crown,
mockings and spittings,
and nails hammered down.
Then lightening flashed
and the Cross lit up
then as angels wept
You drank the full cup.
Your words..."It is finished"
ricocheted off the hill
as the sky turned black
and the earth stood still.
To me it's a Mystery,
that kind of love;
way over my head, Lord,
just beyond and above.
Why You love Me -
I haven't a clue;
but because of the Cross
I'll always Love You!
