lived the hearts as black as coal
looking for the peace was lost
never mind the care or cost
came a man so strong and bold
to tame the hills and warm the cold
he offered life and water came
he cured the sick and walked the lame
this man was love though walked alone
through the valley of dry bone
and to these dead he breathed new life
to free these mortals from their strife
throughout the valley to those who came
he took away their lives of shame
he took them up the mountain high
he spread their wings and made them fly
he gathered those who bared his name
and sent them out to do the same
and in this valley the stench of death
came new life came new breath
but then one night they barely knew
in the midst of valley dew
came a man - his very own
to betray and to disown
and with a kiss they ran away
it seemed the valley would decay
those who wanted him to die
tore their coats and shouted lies
they stripped him bare and ripped his skin
but with each whip died another sin
they raised him up for all to see
they watched him die they watched him bleed
when he was dead they took him down
wrapped in cloth and removed his crown
though earth shook and thunder pealed
they laid him in a tomb and sealed
they went away to weep and mourn
their spirits troubled - hearts forlorn
but on third day the women went
to treat the body with spice and scent
but to their shock and their dismay
the tomb was empty - no body lay
to the women an angel said
Jesus rose from the dead
they ran away to spread the word
that Jesus really was their Lord
soon the others would find out
their time was coming to good news shout
through the valley went the news
that with this man no soul would lose
eternal life - his sacred gift
to crush the mountains and valleys lift
so come to him all you who thirst
those who live their lives accursed
come with empty hand and cup
he’ll fill your soul and raise you up
