So, needless to say, my Saturday is pretty full. If I add another responsibility to the list, it could be the straw that breaks this camel’s back. Maybe someone else could help you out?
Hope you understand.
Sincerely,
Brenda”
Brenda folded her letter and inserted it in the envelope. She grimaced at the taste of the glue as she sealed the flap, proceeded to address her letter of declination, and headed to the mailbox.
She reentered the house and sat at her breakfast nook eating her breakfast. As she ate, she watched her small black and white television, wishing her big screen hadn’t been stolen in the recent break in. Right in the middle of her favorite show, ‘My Big Break’, there was an interruption for a special newsbreak. Apparently, several inmates had just attempted a break out from the state prison only a few miles from Brenda’s home!
That news startled her, but she was glad when programming returned to her show. It was a break away hit that she’d loved from the first episode. It was a great one, where a girl was trying to break into the business of acting and got her shot of a lifetime. Then the day of the audition, someone told her the customary phrase, “Break a leg”, and she did. Literally! The poor thing broke her leg on the way to the stage. After that story, Brenda was hooked.
The next show was another favorite of Brenda’s. It was called “Break a Sweat”. They had great dancers competing in a contest for big money. She liked all the styles represented on the show, but really enjoyed watching the break-dancers spinning on their heads. Sometimes she felt like her life was spinning about her like that.
However, today she had no time to watch. She needed to rush now and get ready for work. It was going to be a busy day at the office. Valentine’s Day was quickly approaching and her new business, Break the Ice Dating Service, would be hopping with heartbroken clients searching for the perfect dates after messy breakups and divorces.
There was one client in particular that Brenda was eager to match up. The poor thing had recently caught her fiancée cheating on her during Spring Break in Florida. The guy had been a real slime ball. Apparently, he had promised to be this girl’s agent. They eventually got engaged, but not until after he’d made her sign a contract giving him a huge share of her earnings; a contract he said she better not break, even though she caught him red handed in a hot tub with another woman! The girl was devastated when she had to break things off because she really loved the jerk.
Brenda wanted to find a perfect match for her, even though she was only a teenager. Break the Ice usually didn’t deal with youngsters, but Brenda was ready to break a few rules to give this special girl an equally special sweet heart for the upcoming holiday.
She glanced at her watch as she finished her cereal and discovered it was later than she thought. She’d have to hurry if she was going to stop for her usual morning espresso at The Coffee Break Café. Then she remembered it was her turn to bring doughnuts for the break room and knew there wouldn’t be time to stop for coffee too.
Setting her bowl in the sink, she bumped the faucet and broke a nail. Great! Just what I needed. I’m already busy as can be. Now I have to fit in a manicure too! Give me a break!

When I was thinking of all the 'breaks' in our lives, I came to the conclusion that we have far too many 'breaks' and sometimes we're a little short on 'mends' or 'repairs'...
You proved it!
