I began reading, “The days ahead are filled with changes which are my challenges. I will respond to these opportunities with the confidence that my life will be better because of them. With God all things are possible.” All things are possible? I’ve heard and read this many times before as you have I’m sure in Matthew 19:26. Does that mean that it’s possible to change my thoughts about circumstances that are beyond my control?
Did you realize that those things which consume your thought life or those things which capture your attention will determine your happiness? It’s really no secret. The answer can be found in a very familiar passage of scripture. Fill your mind with “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8, NIV) Meditated thoughts create decisions which create actions and habits that determine your attitude.
Let’s be honest. It seems sometimes having “one of those days” can turn into seasons of months or even years at times. Maxwell writes, “Any man can fight the battle for just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities, yesterday and tomorrow, that we tremble. It is not the experiences of today that drive men to distraction; it is the remorse or bitterness for something that happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring. Let us therefore live but one day at a time – today! “
Maybe like me, you might find yourself needing to do a little Hallelujah dance to brush off those negative feelings about some circumstances which may be out of your control. You may even have to do this little dance daily. Just wake each day saying, “I’m not what I want to be, but thank God I’m not where I used to be” then get to dancin’! No one but you can determine what you will think and how you will act.
