"Shem, the dripping is not that bad. We'll be fine."
A half of an hour later Shem sprinted up to his father. "Dad, there's a pool of water on the floor. The horses are getting upset."
His dad smiled. "Son, I'm not worried."
An hour later, Shem sought out his dad where he was resting. "Dad, the dripping has turned into a leak."
Dad put his hand on his son's shoulder. "Shem, we'll be okay."
Later in the day Shem found his dad and pulled on his arm. "Dad, please come and check this out; the hole has gone from a leak to a downburst. I'm worried about all the animals."
Shem and his dad went downstairs to look at the problem. "Good thing we have extra wood and tar on hand. A piece of lumber should take care of the problem. Shem, go find a board that is two by two, and I'll get the tar ready."
Shem brought his dad the board and put it on the ground. Noah used a brush to put the tar on the board. "Shem, I need you to hold the ladder when I nail the board to the ceiling."
Noah climbed up the ladder and nailed the board to the ceiling of the ark, then came back down. He dried his hair and face with a cloth. "I think that'll take care of it. Shem, did you really think the ark was going to sink?"
"Dad," Shem sighed as they cleaned up. "I have never seen it rain like this before. I was worried that we'd drown."
Noah stopped cleaning up for a second and cast his eyes on his son. "Why do you think God would sink our ship? He had a special plan in mind."
"What plan was that?"
"After the flood he's going to repopulate the earth. We have two of every species. He needed someone to carry out his plan."
Shem rolled his eyes. "Why us?"
A glow came over Noah's face. "Because our family has been faithful to God."
Shem grinned. "So God really has his hand of protection on us."
Noah put his arm around his son's shoulders as they both gazed
at ceiling they fixed. "Shem, the roof could collapse and he still would have his hand on us."

I've often wondered what Noah's family thought about their adventure. You gave me something to think about.
