Within three generations, you will be forgotten. In one generation you will be forgotten by all but family. For the world, this is a sad reality, but not for the Christian. The one who lives in Christ is not living for a world that is passing away, but for a life that will never pass.
Like the world, we will bloom and fall away. It’s the fact of life. It’s what the blossom of our life accomplishes that separates us from the world. This flesh is destined to fall to the ground, so it isn’t our life in the flesh that we are investing ourselves into. In the Bible we are told, “The world is passing away, and all that is to be desired in it. He who does the will of God abides forever.”
Like a field, everything in the world lives for a time and returns to the earth. Some plants bloom with splendor, and some with tiny blossoms unseen by the human eye. The glory of the Christian life is that our moment of blooming has an eternal seed behind it. In a moment, the world forgets our efforts, but that which is done through the Spirit of God’s power cannot be forgotten. The Spirit’s bloom remains unseen by the world, but eternally in God’s presence.
Don’t forget the promise of God. The good works of some are clearly evident, but those that are not, cannot be hidden. Those who bloom in the Spirit may not be seen by human eyes, but take heart. These cannot be hidden from eternal eyes. Lives that faithfully bloom in the life of those grounded in Christ will be clearly seen when Christ transforms faith into sight.
