Where I come from, there are three kinds of singers; those that can sing, those that can "saaang”, and those that “can’t carry a tune in a bucket.”
The first category is reserved for those that can sing quite nicely. Perhaps there is no extra special ability, but these people can be depended upon to produce simple, acceptable tones that would enhance any choir or group. They have an ear to hear the melody and can be trusted to stay in tune.
In our second category you find those that can “saaaang”, this is slang for “really, really sing, really, really well!” These are the ones who can belt out notes from three different registers. They can use their vocal chords to travel up and down the scale, at will, producing one melodious sound after another. These are the skilled, exciting, entertaining types that you’d hope would sing the solos on Sunday mornings.
Last, but not least, and God bless us all, there are some who can’t…well, sing, even if you give them the tune, put it in the bucket, label it with an address and apply postage, they still couldn’t be trusted to deliver. These are typically the sweetest people and of course they always want to sing, but they just don’t have the ear, at least not for music.
While we can all find ourselves in one of these categories, the group you land in is not as important as to whether or not you have a song to sing.
Yes, a song. Your song represents your inward joy, joy that is not predicated upon outward circumstances but demonstrates the deep blessed assurance that come what may, God will take care of you. We all need to be armed with a song at all times; a song of praise, a song of hope. It is your song that will sustain you during hard times. It is your song, the melody in your heart, that will enable you to remain focused on the God of your salvation and His unfailing love. We all need a song.
There is power in your song. One of my favorite stories that demonstrates this power is told in II Chronicles 20. When King Jehoshaphat and the people from every part of Judah were facing the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, they were afraid. But instead of donning battle gear and chariots, Jehoshaphat appointed a choir to lead the march. They were dressed in sanctified garments and they sang a song; “His loving kindness is forever”. [Life Application Bible] The Bible says that at the moment they began to sing and to praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to begin fighting among themselves until they destroyed one another! Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah never had to fight, they had to sing. Your song of praise will cause God to fight for you! There is power in your song!
Not only do we need a song for our own personal benefit, we need a song that expresses to God just how good He is and how much we love Him, just because He’s God. This is the song that no one can write for you. Sure, the scriptures are filled with songs of praise and prayer that our forefathers offered up to God, songs that expressed their deepest, most innermost sentiments during challenging times, times of solitude, and times of triumph! These songs were filled with words from their hearts that reached the heart of God.
Bu there’s nothing like the new song that comes directly from you! You don’t have to be a poet. It doesn’t have to rhyme. Just sing! Express yourself. Tell God how good He is, how much you love Him and appreciate Him. God is worthy of your song. Before you know it, you’ll find yourself in the presence of the Lord where there is peace and joy.
So, no matter what kind of singer you are; one that can sing, one that can saaaang, or the one that can’t carry a tune, it doesn’t matter. God doesn’t care. Just as long as you sing unto the Lord a new song! Sing unto the Lord, all the earth!

Congrats.
Felt like you were talking to me, well to all of us.
Good examples and great line of thought.
:) This is the most smile worthy article yet!
I just need to get a three to four sentence bio note from you, to include in the book. Most of us hate writing these things, but they are important. A lot of readers enjoy finding out a little more about the authors.
If you need a bit of an idea how to go about writing it, visit FaithWriters' Magazine:
www.faithwriters.magazine.com
and have a look at some of the bio notes at the end of any of the articles.
Then if you could send it to me as a Private Message, that would be wonderful.
Thanks so much!
