One day she found an advertisement on the internet for a job that fitted her qualifications. She responded and was called for an interview. She did well in it and was offered a job with good pay and benefits. She did research on the internet on the credentials of the firm and was satisfied. She was told that she could work from and home and that they would pay for the software needed and also for a new computer. They sent her a check to cover this purchase and told her to buy the equipment from a particular firm. My daughter did so. She called me and told me the happy news.
A week passed and I did not hear from her. So I called her.
“How is your job doing? Are you very busy?”
“No, Mom, It is just --- er,” she hesitated.
“What is the matter, dear? Is every thing O.K.?” I persisted.
“Well, Mom, the whole thing was a scam. I lost all my money in the bank. But don’t worry. I will be alright.”
Now I panicked.
“How much did you lose? Did you call the police?” I persisted.
“Yes, Mom, I have done every thing possible. But the detectives say that they are sorry but nothing can be done. But please don’t get upset. God is trying to teach me something and apparently I am not listening. I just feel exploited and cheated out of my hard - earned money for no fault of mine. I am praying that God will show me what to do.”
As I listened to her I realized the faith of my child. She was not ranting and raving at the firm that had cheated her. She was not criticizing herself, a graduate in security systems, for being stupid and falling a victim to this scam. Above all she did not complain to God or accuse Him for her misfortune. Yes, she is confused and bewildered but not depressed or dejected. Empty of worldly richly riches she was trusting in God’s providence for the future. I thanked God for my precious child. How true, I wondered, are Brennan Manning words:
‘Faith and hope work together to form a trusting disciple.’
My heart brims with pride and awe at this beloved child of mine as she stands tall and strong in her faith. Poor she may be in man’s sight but extremely rich in trust and faith.
There are riches that can be measured in silver and gold and in the mighty dollar. Its value however is transient. There are other kinds of riches whose value cannot be measured because they are priceless. By choosing the latter my child has made me immensely proud. This is an awesome mother’s day gift I will treasure all my life.

Thank you for sharing this hard lesson of reality/life, and for sharing your daughter's intensely level headed approach that was laced with love of God and faith.
God Bless~
The only red ink I have is to double space between the dialogue as each new speaker merits a new paragraph, even if it's just one word.
You did a beautiful job of writing on topic while telling a lesson we all need to be reminded of. Nicely done.
I'm sure you're already aware of it, but putting spaces between dialog lines would make this more aesthetic. (easier to read). That's minor, and easily corrected, and in no way took away from the enormous impact this entry makes.
Keep up the good work!
