Her mama cries, then quiets, and grieves.
Her life is hard, it cuts, it bleeds.
And through it all, she writes.
Her peers laugh, they jeer, they taunt.
Her “friends” tease, and wound, and mock.
Her memories resurrect, they burn, they haunt.
And through it all, she writes.
She mourns, she aches, she drinks.
She forgets, then recalls, and rethinks.
She drifts, she treads, she sinks.
And through it all, she writes.
HE loves, HE heals, HE gives.
She sees, then believes, and shifts.
She follows, she trusts, she lives.
And through it all, she writes.
She works, she grows, she gropes.
She looks up, to plan, to cope.
She dreams, she prays, she hopes.
And through it all, she writes.
Her work refused, misused, turned away.
Her pages denied, defiled, and pained.
Her masterpiece returned, rejected, and swayed.
And through it all, she writes.
Because she lives, and breathes, and thrives,
Her writing anchors, and reveals, brings life.
Others it helps, and saves, and drives.
So this is why she writes.
