Life was becoming rather boring . I had somehow became stuck in the the cycle of the same old routine. I had complained to God about how dull my life seemed to be and felt like I was not making any real contribution to this world. Something had to change. I just couldn't figure out what to do with the rest of my life. I knew that I had to do something more than just work five days a week and attend church on Wensday nights, Sunday mornings, and Sunday nights. This was just not getting the job done. I found myself becoming restless and discontented. Lord, it's me again. I am so bored here. I know you are probably thinking that I am so ungrateful. I can't believe that this is all that you want me to do with my life. What else can I do Lord?
That night when I went to bed. I had this dream that seemed so real. Jesus was there in front of me and we were having a conversation. He told me that we were going on a sightseeing trip to some places that I have never seen. I'm all for that, sounds very exciting I replied.
We somehow traveled from place to place like we were traveling through time.
The first place we went to was Africa. I was amazed by the thousands of people who were there. I said, Jesus why are we here? I could see the sadness in his eyes. He said, "do you see what I see?" " Look at all these people here. " "These people are suffering with all manner of disease and have little food." " The workers are exhausted because the laborers are few. "
"There is not enough workers to come and minister to these people." What can I do about it? I asked. Jesus just looked at me with those eyes of his.
We were now over in Russia visiting the orphanage there. I saw all the babies there. Most of them were crying. Jesus said, "do you see what I see?"Of course I see them. "There isn't enough medicine and food, because there are few who reach out to these children. " I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Who would not want to help these poor little children? I saw the look in Jesus's eyes, he looked very sad. My heart was beginning to trouble me.
Now we are over in the streets of New York. "There are a lot of homeless people here" Jesus said, I could here the words echo in the the night. "Do you see what I see? "Yes, Jesus ,I see them. "They have no roof over their heads, because there is lack of community support. " "There is not enough funds to feed them all. " I am beginning to catch the meaning of all this.
We then visited this little village in the far corner of the earth. Jesus turned around and looked at me. Then he said, "these people have never heard about me. " " Do you see what I see?"
" There is no one willing to come here to share my word with them ."
" The laborers are all to busy living their own lives." " They don't hear my voice telling them to go." I could see the sadness in his eyes and my heart was breaking. Lord there is only one of me. What good will it do ,if only one goes? "That's just it my friend."" What if everyone one felt that way?" " It only takes a willing heart." "Just one willing heart." " Do you now see what I see? " "You said that you were bored with your life." " Here is the opportunity to live it for me."
I woke up from my dream. It was so real to me. That's it I told my wife lying next to me."What are you talking about?" She was looking at me rather confused. I am going into missions . That is what I am going to do with the rest of my life. "Are you crazy?" "You can't do it all by yourself." I know I can't I told my wife, but how will I know what I can do ,if I never go?
I thank you Lord for taking me on that sightseeing trip. Now I see what you see.
