"Why God? Why did you choose to take our baby? He was perfect- it doesn’t make sense. We loved him so much. He had so many people praying for him. God, please tell me why." Her head dropped as she fought the questions welling up inside. She didn’t notice that the birds were chirping, or the sun was shining. None of it mattered now- all sunshine seemed to have abandoned her.
She was kneeling at the freshly made grave of her baby son. Alone, except one other. A firm hand grasped her shoulder, his other around her waist. How many times during the past nine months had her husband’s hand steadied her own? How many tears had been shed on his shoulder? Through how many doctors visits had he clasped her hand as they heard the hard truth? How many words of comfort had he whispered?
But now, no words were needed. There were no words to heal wounds so deep. "My daughter, My son. My children. I chose you for this task. You have brought forth a child for My Kingdom, for an eternal purpose. He will live forever. I asked him of you because I love you, because you are my beloved servants. ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” (Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV)
She reached up and clasped his hand. A faint smile flickered across their faces as they stood to leave. “It’s going to be okay,” she whispered. “His ways are not our ways, they are higher.”
