“Let No One Steal Your Joy”

The Pastor’s words ring loud and clear
His message preached for all to hear
I listened attentively to his speech –
That’s just the point I want to reach.

My joy is mine to keep and hold
No one should steal it I am told
‘Twould only make my life a misery
And offer me no real guarantee

Of happiness and peace of mind
Can I find a heart that’s kind,
Willing to understand my need
Not to pander to another’s greed

For selfish motives that are plain,
Only to acquire some personal gain?
If I to more serious things aspire
Why put me to hang out on a dryer?

There, it comes to me in a flash
Who steals my purse steals only trash.
They can’t take what the Master gives
True joy is found in one who lives

By the Book given us so long ago
To read how blessings come and go
The tinkling laughter of children at play,
The singing birds at start of day,

The fragrant flowers in colours radiant,
The growth of trees, their leaves luxuriant,
The rain that showers us from above
Reminds constantly of the Saviour’s love.

Let no one steal my joy, I pray.
What God gives, let Satan never take away.

Nice poem. I escpecially liked:
'There, it comes to me in a flash
Who steals my purse steals only trash.
They can’t take what the Master gives
True joy is found in one who lives'
A scripture quote at the end is always helpful if you've alluded to something particular.

Very nicely done. I'm not a poetry expert, but I enjoyed your work.

A well written piece of poetry which has a clear outline. Te idea is expressed poetically and well. The permanence of God given joy is contrasted to the ephemeral joy that money offers. Please continue to write and God bless you!

I too enjoyed the 5th verse the most, too. Very good imagery. Like the way you compare the constancy of Gods' love to the 'simple' things of life. Yeggy
