When Bob came home from work and walked inside, he looked around and couldn’t see Penny. He knew something was wrong because she always met him at the door when he came home. He hollered out Penny’s name, but there wasn't any response. He searched the house and couldn’t find her anywhere. He started to panic, but he realized he needed to rely on God to guide him in the midst of his trials. After he prayed, he felt like Penny was hidden in a nearby house, but he didn’t know where.

He also knew he needed to call Detective Mallory and ask him for help.

“Detective Mallory speaking.”

“This is Bob Mason.”

“What can I do for you?”

“Penny has disappeared. I came home from work and couldn't locate her. Her car is in the drive and her purse is where she usually keeps it, but she's not home.”

“I’ll be over right away,” Detective Mallory replied.

After Bob hung up, he walked outside to see if he could find Penny. He continued to pray for God’s guidance. He saw a neighbor, Mrs. Watkins, outside and asked her if she had seen Penny. Mrs. Watkins told him she had seen Penny out walking earlier but didn't see her come home. He thanked her and walked back to his house.

Bob saw a black car pull up in front of his house. Detective Mallory climbed out of the car and said, “Hi, Bob.”

“Hi, Mallory, how are you?”

“I’m okay.”

“Our neighbor, Mrs. Watkins, said she saw Penny out walking earlier but didn't see her come home.”

“What do you think happened to her?”

“I’m not sure, but I prayed for God’s guidance. I believe that Penny is hidden in a house nearby,” Bob said.

“Do you have any idea where?”

“No, but I’m positive she’s nearby.”

"Does anyone live in the mansion in the secluded area on the hill two blocks from here?”

“Two men have been renting it, but they recently moved away, or at least I thought they did.”

“Let’s check it out,” Mallory
suggested.

Since the house was two blocks away, they decided to walk. Bob continued to pray for guidance. When they approached the house, they noticed a man working in the yard “Excuse me sir. My name is Bob Mason.”

“It's nice to meet you. I'm Mike Watson. My wife and I just bought this house,” Mike replied.

“Have you seen this woman?” Bob asked, as he showed Penny's picture to Mike. “She’s my wife. She wasn’t home when I arrived earlier.”

“No, I'm sorry I haven't. We’ve been busy unpacking our things and cleaning up the yard. We just moved in here this afternoon.”

“Mike!” Mary hollered, as she dashed out of the house.

“Mary, calm down. What's wrong?”

“I heard it again.”

“Mary, I'm sure it's nothing.”

“I'm sorry. I didn't know you had company.”

“Bob, this is my wife, Mary. Mary, this is Bob. He lives two blocks from here.”

“What sounds are you talking about?” Bob asked.

“Mary thinks the house is haunted. She keeps hearing voices.”

“I have a strong feeling about this house. I believe Penny is in here.”

“What?” Mike asked, curiously. “That can’t be. Nobody is here except for my wife and me.”

“I can’t help it. I believe we should check out this house,” Bob said.

“Mike, she could be the one I keep hearing,” Mary said.

“Okay. Let’s check out the house. I just don’t know where she could be,” Mike replied.

They entered the house and looked around downstairs. Mary went upstairs to the bathroom. While upstairs she heard some noises again. She ran downstairs and hollered. "Mike! I heard it again! She has to be hidden somewhere upstairs."

As they walked upstairs, Bob prayed for guidance. “She’s in a hidden room up here, but I don’t know where,” Bob said.

They searched the rooms for clues of a hidden room. When they entered the master bedroom, Mallory noticed the walls had new wallpaper on them. Finally, he spotted the door when he moved the chest away from the wall. “Bob, here’s a hidden door.”

“A door!” Mary exclaimed.

“Yes. It’s hidden behind the wallpaper.”

“We didn’t notice the door because the house was furnished,” Mary replied.

“Penny has to be inside,” Bob said.
They opened the door and found Penny.

Bob was happy that he located Penny. He knew it was God who guided him in his search.

Interesting story, but it left lots of questions unanswered. Intriguing...

Intriguing mystery--how did she get there? Work on making dialog sound more realistic, and giving your characters more distinct personalities. The plot was good; I wish you'd had more words to expand and clarify it.
