HOSPITALITY
Scriptures from New Living Translation
It was passed on to me, from mama’s long gone to be with the Lord, “Never mistreat anyone in your home. It never hurts just to be nice.”
Romans 12:13, When God’s children are in need, be the one to help them out, and get into the habit of inviting guest home for dinner or, if they need lodging, for the night.
If for no other reason, we will get to know someone who is different than us. They may be different in culture, color or beliefs, but God created them just as He did us.
One of the most beautiful Thanksgiving day I’ve ever had was when in college, I invited several students from other countries to join us. The food was fantastic and varied, and my children had another lesson in the sameness, but difference that God in His wisdom has created. Important to me was that my guests were not alone on this day of celebration.
1Timothy 3:2, …For an elder… must enjoy having guest in his home and must be able to teach.
As leaders we have a responsibility to teach. Gone are the days when parents in the home or in the church can say, “Do as I say not as I do.” Whether children by physical or spiritual birth, they learn by what they see us doing – we teach by action.
1Peter 4:9, Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.
God has truly blessed us with homes great and small. I have seen the homeless with just a tent invite others to stay with them who had no covering for the night. We are blessed to bless in any way we can. But not only because the Word says to give, it’s just nice to be nice – hospitality will breed goodwill.
