Thinking about what it meant for Jesus to take on flesh, I wrote a light-hearted letter from the flesh-bound Jesus to His Father. Please excuse the familiarity – it’s an attempt to frame a massive truth in a way that makes it understandable to new believers.
I’m doing this by email because that’s the way they do it here. It’s a part of taking on the flesh that I quite enjoy. I’ll send it to the cloud. (Gabriel can take it from there.)
I miss you! There’s such a restraint in this body! Like we said before I left, I can talk to you and feel you all about me and in me, but I miss SEEING you. These guys are going to LOVE seeing you face-to-face and really knowing you. Flesh can only know in part.
Remember when we spoke light into being? And separated it from darkness? Well, darkness definitely has its drawbacks. It’s kind of – cold. And cowardly. It hides things. The ones who deny us love it. But the ones who see - I can only say that TRUE light is going to WOW them! They can’t see it now, but the light here is quite colourless, and there’s a muted glow to radiance. Now, when they see REAL radiance, look out! Hey, just an idea…how about we give them a little peek – a glimpse of the real stuff? Bring a couple of their favourites in on it – Moses and Elijah maybe? That’ll knock ‘em into eternity, haha!☺
Speaking of eternity, it’s a good thing we decided to put it in the hearts of men, but they don’t remember it very often. Here, they live as if there’s no tomorrow, eternally speaking. It’s as if what they do doesn't matter. If only they had eyes to see that they are stewards of what we’ve given them. They’d certainly treasure the earth if they could hear creation crying out as we do in heaven.
I overheard a conversation in the temple court the other day. It was two ladies, and one was describing “a little bit of heaven on earth.” Turns out she’d just had a good falafel wrap! I’ll tell you where I do see something familiar though, where it’s almost pure, just like home. Out in the leper camps. The love there is viscous; it’s all over everything and it lingers even in the silence. They help each other do little tasks, or they comfort, encourage, or just sit together…now THAT’S a taste of heaven!
I’ve got a big day ahead, grace and truth to deliver. I’m looking forward to the tax collectors. They’re a godless bunch but they sometimes listen. Wednesday, I’ve got the religious mob. Aaaaaargh! Grace and truth are lost on them.
Oh drats. No wings. I forgot.
…No special favours?
Just kidding. Love you!
