I could hear the whispers on the wind around me. The excitement grew with each passing moment. The King would be coming soon and we couldn’t wait to have him with us again. It had been too long since he had visited.

My brothers and sisters laid out the best of this year’s crop for his enjoyment. Never resenting our place in the kingdom, we had been doing our work diligently for ages. We provide so many things for the king’s people. Food, shelter, art…but they barely took notice of us anymore.

The time was approaching and I could feel an energy surging through me. The air was electrified. A song began to resonate from the depths of my being. I released it to join in chorus with those around me. Birds began to sing in counterpoint.

Just as the wind began to whistle around us, I saw the King coming. The crunch of our leaves below his feet provided a gentle rhythm. His smile lit up the sky. His presence created a peace around us that we had forgotten.

His hands had once shaped our kin into objects to be used by others. His enemies had used some of our kin to sentence him to death. But, they neglected to remember that he had created the tree of life. Now, we were going to sing and remind them of their King.

“Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.” (I Chronicles 16:33)

Very creative.

This piece took a second read in order to appreciate it wholly. It was the trees that were excitedly waiting, their crunching leaves around them as the wind whistled around them! Absolutely beautiful when finally realizing it was the trees awaiting their King and Creator. Very nicely written, and creative. It was the verse from scripture that nailed it for me! I loved it!

All I can say is Wow! From beginning to end, the anticipation over the return of our Lord as displayed by the trees is inspiring!
If the trees sing out in the Presence of the Lord, can we do less?
What else can I say but Bravo!

This is marvelous! I'm so glad that you kept it short and tight--you built the anticipation and then you put us right there on the spot! Skillfully done!

What a unique perspective - excellent! I love the way the song rose up from deep within the tree.

I loved it! How wonderful to anticipate the coming of our king through the veiwpoint of the trees. It only increases my anticipation.
