TITLE: I Don't Think About Trees

We kill trees for paper, paper everywhere
For fuel, furniture, homes, even flavored toothpicks
Thank the Lord they’re a renewable resource
I don’t think about trees

Splendid redwoods or tinsel-smothered used firs
Dead or alive they’re a logo of life
They exchange with us the air we breathe
But I don’t think about trees

A faith-themed piece on trees should contain
Commentary on the Tree of Life
Or Jesus the tree and we the branches, or the “tree” on which Christ died
But what could I add about the living hope those trees incite in me?

I do love the shade of trees in summertime
Memorable old willows glorifying the tiny lake
Where I fed ducks and caught decomposed cans as a child

Chasing “helicopter” seed pods
Falling from generous maples on Spruce Street
Kept me satisfied simply in ecstatic dance

New paper gratifies my soul
And then I delight to see my work on paper
Even when I’m about to discard it

I especially love to breathe
In-out, shallow-deep, soft-heavy, sighing-silently I breathe
They take my carbon dioxide in exchange for the oxygen I need
Still, I don’t think about trees

Delightful! I liked it! It has that certain ring to it; not exactly rhyme per se..but "something" I could feel...and it had so much truth. Yes, you did a good job describing trees...and it gave ME thoughts...even if the Author claims he or she doesn't think about trees. (Smile) Very nicely written with a splash of Creativity that stays with the Reader./ Thanks for sharing.

I love your 4th and 5th stanzas. Consider making them the certerpiece for a poem with a different mood entirely.

I like the fact that you recognize the living hope that the trees give you, but it contradicts the premise that you do not think about trees.
