All of the universes He's made are awesome in their own way. The static universe was majestic and imposing while the dancing universe was fluid and spontaneous; but this one, this one is orderly and chaotic. Burning balls of gas expanding, hurtling around each other and even colliding with each other, and yet, the whole system holds together in perfectly measured laws, each motion expertly counterbalanced by an opposing motion. And emanating from these gas clusters-
“Light.” He chuckles, “Do you like it? It's my newest creation.”
Light. It's a wave; it's a speck. It's a constant; it's fickle.
“It's beautiful.”
He laughs again, “I think I'm going to have to start calling you Lucifer! You're quite attached to this light universe aren't you?”
I nod solemnly. “I believe I am.”
“Well, We will just have to make a world here, then. In what system should I put my signature?”
He compresses his hands together so the universe shrinks to a bright globe between his palms. I scan through all the galaxies and star systems, every one unique and beautiful.
“That one!”
“Sol. A very good choice. There's a water globe there that I am particularly fond of which, with some extra attention, I can make very special.”
He throws his arms out and the universe bursts in expansion around us. Asteroids and nebulae whiz past my face. The universe grows ever larger until we rest on the surface of a dark, turbulent ocean.
He shoots me a grin, “Let's let some light in, Lucifer.” I can feel the globe start to revolve. On the horizon the sun bursts over the water in glorious colors.
“I call it Day. And that...” He nods back to the darkness we were just in, “I call night. It's good right?”
I love this about Him. No matter how many universes He creates, He never loses enthusiasm. And He always wants to share it with me, if only I could create with Him.
“Now, We can get the water moving in a cycle.” He mutters to Himself as he lifts water molecules up into the air where they condense into clouds. He looks at me and looks back up at the clouds floating high in the heavens. “I like it.”
He then turns His attention back down to the water. He reaches down till He touches something hard, then slams His fist onto the rock. Cracks shoot across the globe. Magma erupts into the air, cooling into islands. He shoves the ground till it slides into another plate, bunching up and bursting up out of the water.
I start to walk towards the land but He grabs my wrist. “Not yet.” He cups His hands full of ocean water. Suddenly it streams out of holes in His hands.
“Jesus, what happened to your hands!”
He gives me a wry smile, “Just how we can't have the light you so admire, without the darkness, there can't be life without death.” And then I see it. I see my great Lord humiliated by dirty creatures that He made! I see darkness shrouding the Maker of light. I see the hands that crafted the universe pierced through with nails.
“It can't be-”
“Shhh,” He stops me. “The time for death approaches soon enough. But for now...see the life!”
In the water streaming from His hands I see cells that move! Then more cells attached to each other and working together. Soon the water is filled with...Life! Fish and plankton and sharks and massive whales teaming throughout the ocean. He laughs and tosses the water up into the heavens and birds fill the air.
Still laughing He says, “It's a good day!”
He walks onto the shoreline, frogs and salamanders sprouting from His footsteps. Mice and lizards scurry away as he walks through tall grass. Then he stoops down and runs his fingers through the dirt. He sculpts it and breathes in it and makes...something very new.
Lifting Adam up from the ground He calls back to me. “So, Lucifer, what do you think of this world?”
I stare into the eyes of this new creation and he matches my gaze.
“It's perfect.”
