Notes: "Vines"
The word "vines" is a blanket word that have varieties of meaning. Vines can depict the stem, branches or fruits (grapes); It could also mean the sum of all the parts as well as the vineyard. In the scriptures, vines could represent Israel, abundant life, prosperity, presence or kingdom of God. In short, vines cut across every area of human endeavor--spirit, soul, body, finaces and relationship. It may also show healthy interaction of these five cardinal areas.
Grapevines are crushed in winepress to produce redwine. These redwines are thought to contain bioflavinoids which impart red color to the wine.
Recently, biomedical research threw more light on the medicinal value of these phytonutrients. Researchers discovered that these plant nutrients nourish the body and protect it against high cholestrol, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and ravages of aging. Thus grapevines can add more years to your life and more life to your years.
Vines are synonymous with virtue. Vines also reflect divine nature and its relationship with the mundane. The Master took this meaning deeper to reflect the spiritual connection between Him and the believers. John 15:1-5 (NIV) Jesus said:
"I am the true vine, and my father is the gardener. He cuts every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful..."
The Master took us back to the law of the farm. The principle of sowing and reaping is the iron law of human destiny. Here, God is the farmer or vine dresser, Jesus is the stem, believers are the branches. The destiny is fruit-bearing. God is result-oriented. The Lord prunes the vines so that they become more productive. It means that the hidden secret of total prosperity is in the unseen realm where we must be connected to God and the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. Those who refuse to comform to pruning become good for nothing and they are cast away. Notice the interesting progression of events as the law of process gathers momentum. The believers under God's discipline and care bear fruit, more fruit, and then much fruit--according to the King James Version. This is the key to the God kind of success. This is the secret of the vines.
