Topic: Exam (09/12/13)

TITLE: Prayer: It’s A Two Way Call
By Shana John

Seriously?! I have literally only 24 hours left before this biology exam, which determines my grade for the class, and I am not even grasping the concepts. Maybe, if I just memorize the notes I will be good, but no; how am I going to elaborate on the topics in the essay portion?
This was the state of mind I was in before my first semester of a college biology test. I was really stressed out about the test, because it was just one of those topics that I was not 100 percent understanding. The anxiety and stress continued up until the night before the exam, when I was completely freaking out and the time was not going any slower.
Then, I remembered a sermon I heard, and how God healed multiple kidney stones, overnight, in a person who just prayed to God for healing. A warm feeling of hope came over me, and I went, got a piece of paper and pen, knelt down, and prayed. I said, “Lord, I am not getting off of my knees until you help me on this test. You said “all things are possible through me for the ones who believe” (Matthew 19:26, Mark 9:23).” My desperate prayer went on for about an hour, until God spoke through the Holy Spirit. Through his word, God said “the fig tree withered according to my say (Matthew 21:19), do I not have the power to help you on this simple test?” That night God placed three topics in my heart that I should go and study. A great sense of relief came over me and all my fright was gone. Immediately, I arose and went back to my notes to study those three topics and peacefully went to bed. The next morning, I walked to class and noticed all my classmates furiously looking through their textbooks and notes with worried faces. On the other hand, I was excited to go take the test and had great faith in God’s word that was given to me. When I finished the multiple choice portion, I turned to the essay portion. Guess what I saw?! All three essay questions were the same topics that God placed on my heart to study! I was overwhelmed with joy to see that God answered my prayer in a miraculous way.
Two weeks later, my professor had a frustrated look on his face and told us that the lecture was going to be on test taking strategies rather than biology. Out of the 70 students in class, 70 percent failed the test and only 11 students got an A or B. I was one of the 11 that aced the exam. Praise the Lord! Prayer is just not some religious practice, but it is our privilege to do a phone call, that will be answered by God!

I enjoyed this. You tackled the topic in a fresh way. I'm sure there are many stories about difficult tests this week, but you tackled it not by God giving you the answers, but showing you what to focus on. Nice job!
