"Brace yourself, Angel. This is going to be a tough one" God chuckles as he sends me on my next mission of mercy. "You'll like her. She's nice".
I have no idea what to expect. When the door opens, the introductions are done and I am ushered in. On first impression, everything seems fine.
"WEOW, WEOW, WEOW.." a shrill, piercing siren makes me jump.
"Not the roast chicken... I knew I'd forget! Just a minute" as Sasha leaps up, she startles little Mika, who starts to cry.
"Hey little one.. its ok. Mummy's coming back soon" while I soothe the troubled infant, I examine the room. Papers lie in piles on the dining room table, and the curtains are torn by what looks like a cat's scratch marks. Yet, underneath the chaos there is an underlying glamour. It looks like it used to be really nice house.
Sasha comes back, sitting down in a hurry like she has a time limit. Her stress lines are prominent on her face.
She starts, "I need a nanny. 7 days a week, 3 kids and a dog. Do you cook?"
"Ok. Well, Mika's mine; but Lucy and Joel are Jared's. They're only here half the time, what with their Mum and all... Jared's going through a nasty divorce. My partner; well he's out of the picture. We're just trying to sort things out, get back on track"
"Can you drive?"
"Good. Lucy has Ballet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Joel plays soccer, and Mika goes to her Grandma's two nights a week. Can you handle that?"
Sasha pauses for a breath. "I really need you. It's been hard finding a nanny, and I have to work. Mika is sick a lot, and I want to be home with her, but I just don't have the time. We can't raise the kids on a single income."
I nod. "I understand. I'll give you a call."
"Great, here's my card".
Leaving the house is like escaping a war zone. I sit in the car for a moment, and catch my breath.
Sasha's card sits enclosed in my hand tightly. Curious, I turn it over and read "For Professional Advice and Counselling, call Sasha Louise, Life Coach."
