To think on --
To ponder.
To know the
meaning and the
extent of.

We interpret its use
in many different ways.
We look at times past
to take stock of the present
and the coming times ahead.

We use many and various
tools to ascertain
length, height, depth,
width, volume, circumference,
mileage, knots, hands,
cups, quarts, gallons
feet, yards, hemlines,
pints, bushels, pecks
seconds, minutes, hours.

The growth and lives
of our children,
and their children
and their children’s children.

Of the passing seasons,
The turning of emerald leaves
to scarlet, gold and cinnamon.

Snow melting into
Violet, yellow and
springtime greens.

Sounds of fireworks
and shrieks of delight
as the waves come
crashing in again
and again.

Snowmen standing sentry
in many a wintry yard
while the cardinals fly
brightly by.

Years rolling quietly,
too quickly as dawn
gives way to twilight.

We are always wanting
needing to know
why, how, when
to quantify and qualify.

Which is smallest,
more gigantic,
the darkest color,
the brightest sunset,

The strongest voice,
the swiftest feet, bike
or rocket.

Who will come in first,
second, third and even last.
and is the tape in sight?

This was lovely to read and wonderfully descriptive. It is so true -
'Years rolling quietly,
too quickly as dawn
gives way to twilight' - reminding us to 'measure our days rightly. I enjoyed this - thank you.

Lovely descriptions in this wonderful poem! I especially liked the stanza:

"Snow melting into
Violet, yellow and
springtime greens."

You used vivid verbs and colorful adjectives that make this piece sing!

Great writing! :)
