I stand here in my tattered clothes
tears fill up my eyes.
I hide in this darkened place
wearing a disguise.

Sometimes I think I can cope
stuck here in my plight.
But no matter what I try
I can't get it right.

I look at what I'm wearing
it's faded and it's torn.
It is a patchwork of rags
and the knees are worn.

I am still remembering
when I had all things.
But I had to pay the price
for the sins it brings.

How could I go to church
where I could meet God?
Because of the way I looked
I felt very odd.

I will need to find something
so I can look fine.
Then I'll stand before the King
looking so refined.

He'll like the way my suit fits
likes the way I look.
Then He will get out His pen
write me in life's book.

You know I must be crazy
'cause I kid myself.
Thinking I could be something
not stuck on this shelf.

So I will sit here crying
for the shape I'm in.
Lost here in my ugliness
burdened by my sins

A hand reached through the darkness
bringing with it light.
It seized the fear that gripped me
making all things right.

I made a discovery
He'll help me with life's plan.
He takes me at face value
cause clothes don't make the man.

Wow! This is so intense. I could absolutely identify with the MC. It almost felt like you had been eavesdropping on my thoughts. People will often think my stories or poems are dark but like yours as long as there is the Light at the end, one can be pulled from that horrible dark and dank place that festers in our minds.

This presents a stark reality between life in the flesh and in the spirit...God bless and thanks for sharing...
