How could it be that you would come for me?
Lost, desolate and alone
You’ve given me more than I could have dreamed

Another day’s end was all I could see
The market corner, my only home
How could it be that you would come for me?

Who am I to receive your generosity?
To have a place to call my own?
You’ve given me more than I could have dreamed

From morn’ till night I watched from the street
Mighty kings on mighty thrones
How could it be that you would come for me?

You offered me a full day’s wages, food and drink!
More benefits than I had known!
You’ve given me more than I could have dreamed

And you set a straight path for my feet
My heart no longer needs to roam
How could it be that you would come for me?
You’ve given me more than I could have dreamed

"Here it is again, the Great Reversal: many of the first ending up last, and the last first." (Matthew 20:16 - The Message)

I truly love this article, and how true. Certainly, those who think themselves first, shall be in-fact last. God's Kingdom is for the "little ons". God Bless!

I like this. Especially in today's economy I could appreciate all of the hidden messages from this love poem. Many wonder how they managed to be the lucky one to get the hob. I also saw it as a love poem to God, coming to us, loving us and providing for us. For me the scripture didn't seem to exactly fit the poem but I'm sure it will bring goosebumps to someone's arms. The Spirit does tend to do things like that.

Good job in capturing the last is first in God's kingdom.

I always appreciate the entries that are poems. Employment/unemployment can give us a false sense of our identity. Great reminder that "He came" for us.

You said a lot in just a few words here. Great message for all those who feel "less than" in today's world. Congrats on your win with this poem.
