TITLE: Story of Joe and Abba
By Cindy Tuttle

born in a small town and had very simple surroundings. His parents faithfully took him to church each Sunday and his dad made sure he learned how to pray. Yep, Joe had a good life with loving parents. But then the unthinkable happened. His parents were killed in an accident. Where would he live? How would he survive without his parents?

Well, sure enough the pastor at the church took him in along with his wife. For months Joe wouldn’t talk or leave the house. No one could seem to get through to him. Then one day Pastor Bill had an idea. He asked his wife,” Martha, what do you say we get a dog for Joe?”

She nodded yet her eyes were filled with concern and worry,” Bill, that might be a good idea. Joe hasn’t responded for months.

Pastor Bill went to the pound and picked out a Springer Spaniel that was brown and white and a tail that kept wagging. His eyes looked straight at him as if to say,” Take me!” Bill couldn’t resist such a friendly and loving dog. But there was something about this dog that touched his soul. He couldn’t explain it.

Pastor Bill took the dog to Joe. Joe looked at him but quickly turned his head and looked back down. His eyes were puffy from crying and his black hair was starting to hide his eyes. But the dog wouldn’t give up. He came over and stated sitting in his lap. His brown and white tail kept wagging and he started to bark as if to say, Can’t you see I want to love you!

But Joe kept looking down as if the dog wasn’t there. Finally Pastor Bill tried once again to talk to him . He put his hand on Joe’s shoulder and said.” Joe, I know what happened to you was horrible but your parents would have wanted you to keep living and praying. You’re not alone. Jesus is right beside you and we will be here for you when you are ready to trust us.” Pastor Bill looked with hope wondering if he would respond but there was nothing.” O.k. You just let me know when you want to talk.” He walked away and went into the chapel to pray.

He looked at the cross on the wall and prayed“Dear Lord, I don’t know how to reach him. He has been through so much; he doesn’t want to be hurt again so he doesn’t want to risk loving anyone again. What can I do?”

He waited for a sign or response but there seemed to be silence. He started to stand up and then he saw a man at the door. Pastor Bill stopped and it was if he couldn’t breath. His heart and soul knew this man well.” Jesus, is that really you?” His face turned white and he wondered if he was hallucinating.

Jesus laughed and said,” You look as if you are seeing a ghost. Yes it’s really me.” He came closer and Pastor Bill’s heart began to race and his face looked as if it was numb.

“I heard your prayer Bill and I’m going to visit Joe. This is a very special little boy. He will end up giving faith and hope too many people. But he needs you help and love. I know you can do this. I will be with you.” He walked away and then turned around and smiled,” By the way I will be present to him in the dog. You will call him Abba. He will never die.” Then he left.

As the story goes, Joe became very attached to Abba and they had a relationship that lasted for 300 hundred years. Joe became a preacher and always had Abba with him in the church. Moral of the story- you just never know how Jesus will visit us.

A very interesting story. It is true you never know how God will visit you and lead you, but isn't it wonderful that He does. Thank you and God bless.

interesting and unusual story. I would of liked a little more description of joe. I did not get much idea of his age and i think it would have helped develop his character more.i love the idea of the dog being part of Gods plan to lead Joe and show him his true Abba father.
