TITLE: Are You Worthy?

"Get an answer in twenty-four hours!" It's a claim one can find on advertisements for different kinds of loans. Of course, while you wait that twenty-four hours hoping and praying that you may be found creditable, they are busy examining your financial past looking for areas that might deem you not worth the risk. You may contemplate if it is something you want to do, weighing what you will actually be paying back once interest and any other fees are calculated in.

Could you imagine if we had to go through a similar process when it comes to God? The good news is that the two are quite the opposite! There is no reason to wait any length of time before seeking God. God knows all about us. He knows all about your past and everything you have done that may be a blemish on your spiritual record. However, unlike the creditor who will use these things to deem you unworthy, God sees these things and finds opportunity there. Instead of turning you away, He longs to be a part of your life. It is easy to wonder why a Holy God would want to have anything to do with the likes of us. He wants us to come to Him just as we are. You could spend years cleaning up your credit report in order to make it look good and meet certain standards. God says with Him there is no need to wait. You see, there is nothing you could do on your own that would make you acceptable or worthy of a relationship with God. No matter how good a person you are or how high you consider your morals to be, we as a fallen people have no place before a righteous God. The amazing thing is that God loves us so much that He has provided a way to get around this. In fact, He did more than provide a simple way. He made a sacrifice for us. He sent His beloved Son to the cross on our behalf. Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ we are made acceptable to God. That is how much He loves you. Jesus went to the cross willingly because of his great love for you. All we need to do is to accept this gift of love.

So, there is no wait and you are considered a good risk to God. Unlike a loan this is a gift. A lender is going to charge you interest and fees and make sure that they get back what they gave you along with what they think they deserve. You may feel nervous about this gift from God. What kind of interest does He charge? Again, we find that although we do not deserve it God extends goodness to us. When we give our lives over to the Creator He blesses us in ways we could never have imagined. Instead of taking interest out of us He takes interest in us. Our lives are transformed and suddenly we realize just how empty we were. Each day becomes something more than ordinary when we know He is at work in our lives. A lot can happen in twenty-four hours!

Nicely written! All of us are "bad credit risks," really; thankfully, God was willing to assume our debts and pay them off. I enjoyed this devotional!

There have been times when I felt that there is no way anyone could possibly love me. But He is always there for me. He truly is a beautiful God.
