Isn’t it a perfect day, my darling? A perfect day for a new chapter of life to begin. The sun feels so warm on my face. The fragrance of honeysuckle is exquisite. Listen, the birds are singing a happy song. Mark, the sky is a radiant, blue.

Do you remember when we first met? The instant, I saw your green eyes sparkle when you looked at me, I knew I was changed forever. A new phase of life had presented itself to me, and I was no longer a young girl; I was a woman.

You completed my life the night you proposed to me. As you knelt before me, took my hand, and placed this beautiful ring on my finger; we began to write a new chapter in our lives. A chapter written by love. God truly merged two hearts into one the day we married. I will never forget the pure joy I felt when I said, “I do.”

It’s so hard to fathom that it has been three years since our wedding. Every day has been an adventure in happiness, and every night, a time of communion between our very souls. Only God could breathe into existence the mystery of a love so deep.

In Ecclesiastes Chapter Three, the Bible says that God gave specific periods of time, in the lives of His people. A time to be born, a time to die, a time to laugh, and a time to weep. Oh my darling, how sweet our laughter, and how we danced to the rhythm of heaven for these three years. You are my hero, my lover, and my forever friend.

Now, a new chapter has begun for us. Just as the previous chapters were indescribable, this one is equally indefinable, but for very different reasons. I could not stand here today in peace and thankfulness, if I were not totally committed and submitted to our Heavenly Father.

When the doctor said, “stage four cancer,” my heart literally skipped a beat. Of course, you put on your “everything’s alright face,” but when I looked into your eyes, I saw fear. Not fear for yourself, but fear for me. How like you, my darling. I’ve always been first in your thoughts, in your actions, and in your prayers.

“Six month,” he said, “with chemo, but much less time without it.” Your courage kept me going. Your strength gave me comfort, even as your suffering drained your life away. God gave us special moments, mini chapters, I called them. Those moments we shared in the midst of our great sorrow were so defining of our faith in God, and our love for each other.

We wrote our story, and it was a happy one, but cancer tore out the happily-ever-after page. Now, I must write the next chapter alone. It won’t be easy, but I know I can do it. Because of you, I can do it.

Your marker was put in place today. I hope you like the inscription:

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

You tied the tale to the topic well. The fantasy-like characterization of the couple's love certainly created a contrast to the trauma they later had to endure.

What a beautiful tribute to true love. You brought a tear to my eye.

Truly beautiful. Well written with one feeling all the emotions of the mc as you read.
Only true love and an absolute belief in God can see one through such a sad time.

The emotions come through in your story. The first half was totally romantic and the second half so sad and heart wrenching. Yes, seasons are but chapters in our lives, often bittersweet. May the Lord comfort our hearts and touch our souls that we may go through life with Him always at our side and in us, knowing that in everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. God bless.
