TITLE: In one moment...
By Joanna Stricker

Giselle had been in love before, but never like this. She certainly never expected to see the love of her life coming out of her sister’s store.

He had deep brown eyes that immediately captivated her heart to him. His long hair was beautifully sculpted around his strongly featured face, and his body was flawlessly proportioned with muscular perfection.

God bless her sister for asking Giselle to pick her up after work, and praise God that she had decided to go into her sister's store to get her!

Alejandro’s move to America two years ago had helped him to overcome much of the crippling shyness that had plagued his younger life. Despite his Italian roots and his countrymen’s aptitude for wooing the opposite sex, he had never fallen in love. But, in one moment, he contradicted his own belief that love at first sight was impossible. By falling in love. And in that second, his shyness came flooding back.

His heart beats sounded like a bongo drum to his ears. He blinked. Surely she was just a mirage, a figment of his imagination. She floated down the sidewalk toward him. Her hair was long and styled with a curly abandon seldom seen in the States where, apparently, straight hair was all the rage. Her hazel eyes sparkled with promises of fun and laughter. She had the cutest nose he had ever seen. It tilted up, just a slight bit, at its very end. And her rosy cheeks were…

Giselle’s skirt swirled around her ankles as she sank to the ground in front of him. He reached his long neck out in greeting and then kissed her cheek. He was so beautiful…

Alejandro stared. She didn’t even take her eyes off of Cody, his basset hound. She had sunk to the ground and Cody, like his master, was captivated by her beauty. It was like Alejandro didn’t exist to the two of them.

Say something! His brain screamed. What could he say? Oh, Lord, help me…help me speak!

“Giselle…Giselle!” Her sister’s voice was commanding her attention. In a daze she looked up at her sister, who looked like she was privately laughing at something. Her sister turned toward the man who was patiently holding the leash of the most beautiful specimen of God’s creation Giselle had ever seen.

The shop’s owner was introducing him, Alejandro, to her. Her name was Giselle!

In, out. In, out. Breathe, Alejandro…now was not the time to hyperventilate and lose his chance to meet her…

Giselle resented the interruption but obediently turned her eyes toward the man, and found…

He was beautiful…deep brown eyes that begged her to tell him her deepest secrets, perfectly sculpted features…ay, yie, yie…she had never believed in love at first sight. But that’s all it took…one moment.

This made me laugh. I was expecting a smothering embrace between the two people, and then there's some mention of a dog! Not what I had forseen at all. Nice job.

I was a little confused with the back and forth but after I read it a couple of times it sunk into my tired brain. Love is definitely a breath-taking, beautiful event when the right two people meet each other.

This was love at first sentence! I adore the romance and liked the little twist about Giselle actually having noticed the dog first rather than his owner! Clever! ;)

Congrats on getting Highly Commended!!!
