When a writer writes,
does he keep writing the same thing?
Does he train his hand
to write in different styles?
When a writer writes,
does he prepare his soul
before trying to break the clods
that hinder inspiration?
When a writer writes,
does he keep on trying
to break through mental blocks
by working at the clumps of hard ground?
When a writer writes,
does he apply himself
to learn how to write
his words and thoughts in many ways?
When a writer writes,
does he not plant poems with their grace,
stories with their plots
and devotions from the heart?
When a writer writes,
does he forget to pray
for God’s instruction
and for the words to write each day?
When a writer writes,
does he not ask the Lord
to teach him the right way
to plant these seeds of words?
When a writer writes,
does he ask the Lord for harvest?
Does he seek wisdom for
new ways to plant with different publishers?
When a writer writes,
he is often beaten by a rod of rejection
that strikes and stings
as precious seed is scattered and strewn.
When a writer writes,
his heart is often bruised and broken
beneath the wheels
of the publishers threshing cart.
When a writer writes,
a gift is offered from his soul.
In His infinite wisdom the Lord Almighty
knows this gift of tender seed is one that must be broken.
Wonderful in counsel,
magnificent in wisdom,
the Lord Almighty has decreed
that the seed must be broken in order that new life can grow.
It is the warmth and the wetness,
of hope and tears
that cause the seed to break
allowing new life to germinate within the broken seed.
The writer writes,
he pens the words
that sprout and shoot towards the sky
knowing God has given to him roots that anchor when the ground is dry.
