With miles traveled we arrived,
And what a site to see.
Six weeks old and full of life,
I held on bended knee.

A mild pat, a gentle hug,
And words of confirmation.
For a week I watched this child,
Go through transformation.

It started out with little things,
Like facial recognition.
Eyes would follow as I moved,
Depending on ambition.

If I spoke a word or two,
Ears would seem to perk up.
Then the cry for food to eat,
When it was time to sup.

When our time had run its course,
This child was one week older.
His smiles, his voice, his movements,
Now were so much bolder.

His eyes now followed as I moved,
With great anticipation.
I pray that all would have the chance,
To see this great sensation.

“WOW” can barely tell the story,
As I put it down on paper.
But even as the years go by,
My zest for life won’t taper.

It reminds me of a bigger picture,
Of a child God sent to earth.
A perfect child in every way,
One born of virgin birth.

Precious event, fun read and I liked how it flowed, bringing the reader to the ultimate birth!

The miracle of a child born and learning new things is definitely a "wow!" Especially the birth of our Lord Jesus. I find it awe-inspiring that He would give up His throne in Heaven to come to earth for us. This is a truly beautiful poem. Loved it!

I love your title and enjoyed the flow and rhyme. Watching infants grow the first year is definately amazing! Great job tying in the perfect baby/child - Jesus.

This is beautiful and flows so easily.

As the grandma of a precious baby not much older than this, I enjoyed the imagery here--babies are so miraculous, the way they learn something new every day.

Some of your rhymes seemed a bit forced to me.

I love the way you brought this around to the Christ Child at the end. Nice.
