Jesus said unto them “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment and the second is like unto it, Thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself.” (NKJV)
I meditated on that thought as I left our visit and searched my heart for answers to a question that only God and myself could answer; because only me and God knew my heart. In addition, the following day the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance 2 Corinthians 10:4, 5-
As Jesus gave us a weapon to win the victory over the lies of the devil…
I no longer at that instant bought into the devil’s lies the strongholds the devil put into my mind; I gave it back to him. The joy he once stole I claimed it; praying in the promise of God’s Word I, through the name of Jesus Christ, asked Jesus, my Lord and Savior, to tear down the strongholds and every high and lofty thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
I rebuked the devil as Jesus did in John 8:44 calling him the father of lies and of all that is false and as it is written in Mark 4:24-
And He was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides;”(NKJV)
The self-love that I lacked came back threefold, and I was restored as Joel 2:25 promises:
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.(NKJV)
The power of God’s love is perfect all the years I allowed the devil to make me believe in order to love myself I had to please others in order of being worthy of loving myself.
God has dealt with my past, so I can deal with the present and I am standing. As it is written; No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But, when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand.
I learned that we all are just pilgrims passing through, and home is where your heart is, and part of our journey is to be shared, but I’ve also learned that we all come to a place where it’s only God and us. However, a postcard can mean a world of difference to a lost soul that has no hope that believes that life’s purpose may only consist of concrete and steel, and wired fences.
Today I can look back and say, without a dream, we can wither away and God places people in our paths to help us see beyond our circumstances and our own self-pity. So that we may see the things of God, and that we may experience the vision to accomplish His good purpose in this life and the life to come.
And I thank God for people like Paul, who are volunteers, who come into prison, to share the gospel and the love of Jesus. As I sit outside of a place I thought I would never be released from I praise God for His grace, and most of all, His mercy
