Lisa fumbled with her clock radio in the darkness and groaned as she sat searching for her slippers. She shuffled towards the shower and leaned against the door wincing in the bright bathroom light. “Oh God, give me strength for this day.”
As the steam billowed from the shower stall, she leaned her head back, allowing the water to soak through her thick, black mane. “My child, calm your soul. Rest in me.”

Cars inched down the freeway. Drivers on either side honked their horns and waved their hands like Italian story tellers. But inside the cocoon of her mini-van, soothing music lifted Lisa’s heart heavenward. “Be still and know that I am God.” Oblivious to the turbulence around her, Lisa’s heart was at peace. A quiet calm rested over her.
Twenty minutes later, Lisa pulled up in front of her office building with no time to spare. Silence filled the van as she turned the key. Lisa sat for a second and smiled. “Thanks, Lord. I needed that.” Grabbing her lunch bag and purse, she swung open her door and ran towards her day.
