I never thought I would live long enough to see the degradation of my government, and how one small five letter word could change what this nation stands for. I do not for the life of me understand how members of my government think that taking from the wealthy and giving to the poor is right. God’s word holds a wealth of wisdom pertaining to dealing with that. All one has to do is read the parable of the loaned money found in Matthew 25:14-30. That speaks volumes of taking from one and giving to others.
My eyes shed endless tears for God’s children all because of that small word greed and if you change one letter it becomes green. Green is the color of our money. Pursuing money is foolishness and it also makes others envious if you have it. There is an old saying that goes something like this. People turned green with envy and coveted what their neighbors had.
One of the Ten Commandments says, “Thou shall not covet.” Exodus 20:17. People run after the almighty dollar, which is green in color, and forget their first love which is Christ the Lord and seek untold wealth. I Timothy 6:9-10 says it better then I can. “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desire that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
I must live in this world until Christ returns or takes me home, but until then I do not equate the color green as the world does. I look to God’s Holy Word for His description of green. I am referring to the 23rd Psalm and what it says. “He makes me lie down in green pastures. Now that is my favorite color and I put my trust in Christ.
I may live in this world but I am not part of this world and I place my faith in Christ not the color (green) of money. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:1-6
The color green to me comes from God but to the people of this world it comes from a printing press run by the Department of the Treasury. I don’t know what others will choose but in the book of Joshua 24:14B it says what my heart felt feelings are. “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
I do not look back but at what lay ahead and I know these old eyes of mine shall see the glory of God and the many magnificent colors of the green hills of a new earth. Ah! to have faith in my Savior, and to me faith means forsaking all I trust Him, is all I need.
