My name is Jackson Smith and I am the local vet/doctor in these parts. My family has lived here for generations as well as my wife’s, Mary’s, family. Trying to tell anybody about the beauty of a pure pristine untouched by human hands place where I live is not an easy task. The only mode of travel way up here in the mountains of West Virginia is on horse back or buggy and the peacefulness is indescribable.

Everybody’s house was built by hand from the ground up and every house has a root cellar. City folks can’t imagine why anyone would want to live so far from civilization but until you spend time in these mountains well, you got to see, experience and live it to understand our love for this quiet kind of living.

I just wish you could see the beauty of autumn from up here in God’s country. The colors of autumn are breathtaking and the smell from God’s good earth unpolluted by man is awesome. The soil is black and rich and the smell of clean fresh air is invigorating. The night sky is breathtaking because there is nothing between to detract from God’s beauty. The stars are so numerous they can’t be counted.

The color of the trees well it is so hard to tell anyone just how majestic the trees are. The red leaves are unbelievably brilliant and the orange leaves defy description. The golden leaves just jump out and grab your attention as you stand there mesmerized by there beauty. Yes sir, autumn up here in the mountains of West Virginia is truly something you have to experience in order to grasp the magnificence of God’s awesome beauty. Mixed in with all of those vibrant colors are the green of the big pines, which holds you spell bound. I don’t think any place on earth could even begin to compare with autumn up here in the mountains of West Virginia.

The nip in the air stings your nose and it seems as if you can just about reach out and touch the hand of God. It is so wonderful up here and your neighbor is more like family then neighbors. Yes sir, autumn in these mountains well, you’ll just have to come see it first hand to understand my love for my home sweet home in the mountains of West Virginia. It is truly unbelievable and absolutely, breathtakingly serene. It’s like a little piece of heaven right here on earth.

I've seen West VIrginia in the summer and winter, but never in the fall. Must be quite beautiful!
